Thai food with friends

After a relaxing day at the pool with some of my farang friends we decided to go to one of the local Thai restaurants situated on the bank of one of the klongs.  We ate Thai-style, which involves ordering a selection of dishes for the table and having a bit of everything.  The dishes for the evening were Tom Kha (a hot and sour soup with chicken and coconut milk) with rice, Cashew Chicken and Deep-fried fish.

Chilling by the pool

Many of the more western villages in our area will allow outsiders to use their pool for a small fee (usually about 40THB).  As we live in one of the more Thai-style villages and don't have a pool, we happily make use of this arrangement.

Our pool of choice can be found at Discovery Retro village which is about 5 minutes by motorcycle taxi from where we live.  In a beautiful setting with an air of tranquility to it, it makes for a very relaxing day.

BBQ Buffet

Right next to our village there is a Thai-style BBQ buffet where for a mere 129THB you can eat as much as you want.  You get to cook your own food and there is a wide variety of fare to choose from ranging from pork and satay chicken kebabs, strips of meat and various kinds of seafood to fried rice, french fries and various kinds of vegetables and salads. There is also a wide selection of Thai desserts as well as a variety of ice cream flavours (including , but not limited to, pineapple, coconut and melon flavours).

At your table you will have a hotpot to fry food on and make soup as well as a small barbecue for barbecuing kebabs and such. 

Drool-worthy Duck Noodle Soup

One of my favourite local Thai eateries is a little place on the basement level of Zeer Rangsit.  I forget the name, but it's easy enough to find.  Just look for the open-plan restaurant with the lime green (for some reason it came out yellow in the photos) crockery and eating utensils.  My meal of choice is the duck noodle soup (made with yellow noodles) accompanied by a watermelon shake.

Fairyland

Traveling to Khaosan Road at night can be a magical experience as the most common route includes a trip down a road lined with trees that have been spectacularly done up with fairy lights.

Apple-flavoured Slushies

I used to have one of these with my lunch at school every day.  At only 5THB they were cheap as well as delicious.  Unfortunately they recently changed the recipe, which resulted in a sickly-sweet product that tastes nothing like apple, so that was the end of that... 

The Pannawit Hair Salon

Every morning before classes start our Thai assistants sit and braid each other's hair.  This was the result when I asked them to do mine.
