Immortalised in crayon

When told that they could draw anything they like on the cover of their work folders, one of my students decided to draw this.

Dinner at our local

We quite often have dinner at one of our local restaurants simply named "The Steak House". The owner and his wife are both very friendly and speak a bit of English.

The menu is bilingual and consists of some Thai fare as well as a few more western dishes like pork, chicken and T-bone steaks.

Tonight I decided to abandon my usual favourite (Spaghetti moo - a type of pork Spaghetti bolognaise) in favour of the Kao Pad Moo (pork fried rice).

School lunch

Today's school lunch selection was pretty good. We got deep fried baby marrow, greenbeans with scrambled egg and chicken Tom Kha (a kind of sour vegetable soup with coconut milk). I bought a strawberry slushie to accompany my meal.

A proper Saffa braai dessert

We had 2 different kinds of watermelon for dessert. I had never had the yellow variety before and found it to be very refreshing. It is a bit more juicy and less sweet in taste than the red variety as well as less grainy and more firm in texture.

Some proper Saffa salads

I made potato salad (boiled potato cubes, boiled egg sliced up, grated onion and mayonnaise), carrot salad (grated carrots and canned pineapple in syrup) and banana salad (sliced banana in a sauce made of mayonnaise, jam - pineapple in this case - and curry powder).

A proper Saffa braai

We decided to have a proper South African "braai" (BBQ) with some friends last night. There were chicken drumsticks, spare ribs and some steaks and I made 3 different kinds of salad as well as some "braaibroodjies" (BBQ toasted sandwiches).
